Our Strategy

The purpose of the FNPSS is to provide support to First Nations communities and organizations by:

Facilitating and coordinating shared services between First Nations communities and organizations to create economies-of-scale for small First Nations communities and organizations to meet their service delivery needs. Two examples include neighboring communities sharing the services of a Housing Inspector and First Nations organizations sharing the services of a Human Resource Specialist.

Administering province-wide programs that support leadership development in youth and other community members such as the “Courage to Excel” recognition program, the “Seventh Generation Club” for kids, and the newly evolving relationship with the Right to Play organization.

Developing and maintaining a communications strategy designed to provide information regarding the implementation of the Capacity Building Strategy.  This strategy includes visting First Nations communities and organizations to seek direction regarding their capacity building needs and their recommendations for meeting these needs.

Negotiating and facilitating partnerships with post-secondary institutions, the federal and provincial governments, and industry that will support capacity building in First Nations communities and organizations.

Conducting research at the direction of First Nations communities and organizations to explore existing and possible new strategies for capacity building, as well as ways to overcome some of the existing challenges to capacity building.

Promoting and coordinating collaboration amongst post-secondary institutions as they work in partnership with First Nations to design and deliver culturally relevant, effective programs that are specifically suited to the needs of First Nations communities and organizations.

Working with First Nations organizations and communities to seek funding to support capacity building.  This may include conducting research regarding specific costs, such as employee compensation, and then lobbying both the federal and provincial governments to change existing policy and legislation as required, to meet community and organizational needs.

Supporting the Integration of Services as articulated by First Nations communities, organizations, and leaders.

Negotiating agreements with relevant professional and regulatory bodies to ensure that capacity building opportunities and strategies meet industry standards.  This could include working with these agencies so that First Nations organizations and communities can access existing networking and mentorship opportunities.
