Status: Full time Contract (35 hours per week; September 2011 to July 2014)
Program Centre (1 – 2 days / week)

Satellite office in Surrey (3 – 4 days/ week)
YWCA Metro Vancouver is excited to be developing an after-school pilot program for grade seven girls transitioning into high school. The program will be based in the community of Surrey. This program includes high school and post secondary student volunteers, parent engagement, timely education on girl’s issues and community services learning, which enables young women to improve their confidence, decision-making and leadership skills.
Project Goal:
To reduce violence against women and to empower young women to become leaders and positive role models in their community.
Project Objective:
To develop resilient, confident and socially responsible young women who are able to make positive decisions for themselves and their community and who are less likely to become victims of violence.
We are looking for a creative individual with excellent interpersonal skills who is strongly customer service oriented, has staff and volunteer management experience and has a demonstrated track record for energy, enthusiasm and innovation.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager, Youth Program, specific duties include:
- Curriculum management, development and facilitation of workshops.
- Market the after-school girls program to schools, in order to recruit participants
- Develop and implement a 16 - 22 hour volunteer and University/college training program, to include recruitment, recognition, and training.
- Volunteer management including recruitment, training, on-going support, and appreciation
- Supporting the evaluation of the youth programs including conducting debrief sessions and focus groups, and analyzing post-program surveys
- Travel to Surrey school district, university/colleges, elementary/high schools and YWCA Program Centre required on a on-going basis
- Providing general office administrative support including preparation of program materials for training and workshops, data base management, participant registration and application processing
- Work with an external evaluator and assist with the coordination of evaluations.

- Research and development of issues facing youth
- Building and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders i.e. Surrey School District #36, community groups
- Providing assistance to fund development for grant proposals
Qualifications:
- Post secondary education, interested in a career in recreation, family studies, and education.
- Work experience in community program settings
- Experience working with youth and volunteers
- Knowledge of community service learning
- Strong office administration skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Strong communication skills with tact and diplomacy
- Event coordination experience
- Organized, self driven and ability to multi-task
- Ability to lead and work in a team environment
- Mentorship experience or knowledge an asset
- Strong leadership skills
- Punjabi skills are an asset
- Vehicle required
